Here are our top 10 albums of 2011, in no particular order:

Madeline - Black Velvet
This record is super amazing! I can't tell you how many times we listened to this during the July tour.

Vacation - Vacation
These dudes are a total party every single time you are around them. This record delivers that, plus super hard lo-fi jams.

Landlord - Beneath The Wheel
These dudes' first album was super good, but I think this one takes it to a new level. Another album that we listened to endlessly in July.

Tenement - Napalm Dream
The Tenement full length was a long time coming, and completely worth it.

Reverse the Curse - Hither & Yon
Our good buddies from Cleveland delivered this gem. The album is super intense in every way. Recorded and produced at Columbus' own The Tone Shoppe.

Bright Eyes - The People's Key
I saw Bright Eyes when they last came through Columbus over the summer and it was fantastic. This album is the Bright Eyes album I have been wanting since Lifted. We listened to this one a lot during our last tour in November.

Saintseneca - Last
This record rules. If you haven't heard it yet, listen to it, you will love listening to it. I guarantee. Another Tone Shoppe production.

Good Luck - Without Hesitation
Good Luck's first album Into Lake Griffy was so super good. This album is just as super good. Seriously.

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
I saw Robin Pecknold last year when he opened for Joanna Newsom. He played a few new songs at that show and they left a very strong impression. When I finally heard them fully realized on this album it made me very happy. I love this album more each time I listen to it.

Moon High - Six Suns
This album sounds so good. You can hear how much went into this self recorded/produced album and it is beautiful. Plus the songs are great and this band is great live.

It was a very good year.

We are home from tour! It was an incredible time, we played so many fun shows, met so many awesome folks and heard so much good music! Thank you to everyone who came to hang out, set up a show, played with us or let us stay with them. Also thanks to Landlord and Madeline for both releasing new records that we listened to non-stop on the drives.

Bloomington and Louisville were both super fun, thanks to everyone who came to hang out! I feel the need to mention the incredibly wonderful Restaurant that has just opened in Bloomington, The Owlery. Some very kind and talented people have just started this all vegetarian restaurant, the food is delicious, the music is great and they give touring bands a %15 discount. If you are ever passing through Bloomington, you should probably go in there and hang out.

Then, Saturday in Athens was also amazing. The Alwood Sisters are fantastic and it is always fun to play with them. Also, if you live in the Midwest and have never been to Casa Nueva in Athens, OH I think that you should. The people who operate it are fantastically nice and smart, plus it has great food and live music. Do it.

All in all, we in Tin Armor all agreed. Best. Weekend. Ever.

Fest 9

This morning we returned from another excellent Fest in Gainesville, Fl. This was the first year that we were able to stay for all three days so I was stoked to be able see so any outstanding bands this year. I've been struggling to pick my favorite set but I think the front runners are P.S. Elliot, Witches and Reverse the Curse. But everything I saw was great. I think Fest 9 currently holds my title of Favorite Fest. We had a great time all weekend and can't wait till next year.

I have to agree with Matt on all accounts. Fest was amazing, but I did want to throw out there that on top of the great bands that Matt mentioned, Madeline's set at Common Grounds was absolutely outstanding and needs to be mentioned!

The Shake Up

Today has been an extremely productive and exciting day! The two biggest pieces of news are that 1.we did a live take of The Shake Up today that turned out exactly the way we wanted it to and 2.afterwards we made vegetarian double downs. (If you're not familiar with the double down, you can click on the title of this entry. But I wouldn't if I was you.)

We have some more recording to do tonight, but things are going well and the record is starting to take shape. It's so exciting!

Strange Correlations

So last night we took a break to play a show with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. It was completely awesome, thanks to those who came and let's do it again sometime!

Today we're working on a song called Strange Correlations. It is a fun one, and if you want to hear our demo of it you can download it for free on this website. It is in the 'Demos' tab to the right.

Also just in case you missed it, we were in the local Columbus paper UWeekly this week, totally without shirts on. It is funny. Here is the link.

Things are moving along extremely well out here! We had some issues yesterday, but things are back on track now and we should be able to get the ground work done for all the songs in the next two days. Hopefully I will have some sort of music to upload soon too!

Day 2 was much more productive. We put together the sound insulating walls for the drums and arranged the gear in the room. Added bonus: I finally got my leslie speaker working with my organ. It's been a long and arduous process but it was absolutely worth the strain. I haven't been so excited about something in months.

Yesterday was our first day in the studio. It wasn't very productive but it was a fun start to the next three weeks. We learned how to play "The Stones That I Throw" then ate at the Ponderosa buffet. It was cool. Pictures are forthcoming.

Hey Everybody!

Tour was wonderful, thanks to everyone who came to hang out or gave us a place to stay. This summer should hold some more fun, Lobster Fest in Athens on June 5th, a couple more Columbus dates in June and Berea Fest in July! Details for all of that is on our myspace. Also we will be recording another full length album in July with our good friend, Eric Cronstein. I will make sure to give out updates on that as it goes along. Anyhow, thanks again to those of who came to have fun with us on tour!

Hey Everybody!

First, we do have some new recordings. For those of you who would like to hear them, we can mail you a hard copies (but we have a limited supply) or we can e-mail it to you. It's a rough draft of the songs we've been working on for the last year.

Second, we are making arrangements to record our next full-length. We don't know how it's going to be released yet, but we are looking into it. It will have some songs from the above mentioned recording as well as some newer songs that are still in the works.

Also, we have some shows coming up and we are planning a couple short tours in the spring. All of the dates the confirmed dates are on our myspace and more are forthcoming.

Hey everybody!

We are currently in Florida for The Fest 8! (http://www.thefestfl.com/fest8/) We played last night and it was awesome! We are going to hang out here today and head back to Ohio sometime tonight. If you have an opportunity to come down to a Fest in the future, I would definitely recommend it.

In other news, our new recordings are fully mixed and just need to be mastered. So in a week or two we will have a finished product available for anyone who is interested! I will be sure and post info on how you can hear/own it when the time comes.

Also Saturday, September 19th is "Independents' Day" in downtown Columbus! Last night we played with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and it was awesome. I haven't had so much fun in a long time, and I know the other Matts and John would express a similar sentiment. It was one of those nights where everything worked out: great show, close friends, and meeting a bunch of new cool people. Thanks a ton everybody. Being in a band is so much fun. Seriously.

Common ground is important for a band. Tin Armor has learned this lesson well. Since their humble beginnings in '06 they have played over one hundred shows across the country, produced two releases: a full length, A Better Place Than I Have Been, available on One Percent Press and a self-titled 7" vinyl single available on Whoa Oh Records. They have recently completed the second full length, Life of Abundance, which they are self releasing summer. In this time Tin Armor has learned to write, record and perform in spite of and in light of the differences that each member brings to the process. They have crafted a unique sound that blends melodic, pop-sensible songwriting with literary and often introverted lyrics. Their honest style of rock and roll is approachable without being boring, and thought provoking without being pedantic. As they work to expand and improve their sound, they continue to learn this valuable lesson: common ground is not found, it is made.

We just found out a few days ago that we're going to be one of the Columbus Alive's bands-to-watch for 2009. This is pretty exciting for us. We're playing the showcase on January 17th (the day after our show with Get Bent at the Monster House) at Skully's. Also, we're moving to a new practice space that we'll be sharing with our good friends Pat (Shout Out Loud Prints) and David (art projects, etc). So far, 2009 is looking to be a pretty good year. I wish I could be more verbose about our excitement but the words just aren't coming. I'm still working on getting more media on the blog. I swear there will be pictures and songs (and videos, fingers-crossed) forthcoming.

The Fest 7

John and I arrived home last night around 2:30 am from Fest 7 in Gainsville, FL. Matty and Matt should be on their way home as I type. Despite the 30+ hours of driving it took to get to and from Florida, I don't think I could have had a better weekend. It was wonderful to see so many friends and bands from all over the country, all in the same place. It made my head spin trying to hang out with everybody but I can't wait to do it again next year. I'm working on ways to get music into the blog so people can listen to us without having to go to our myspace. Any suggestions? Email us at tinarmormusic@gmail.com. We're new to blogging.
